What links the McLaren P1, the Ford Escort, the Bentley Speed Six and the MG XPower SV-R? Well, two things actually. First, they’re all examples of the finest British motoring products. Secondly, there is at least one of each on the Grid at Rule Britannia Sunday Breakfast Club.
For the uninitiated, the Grid – that being the section of the circuit where the cars line up to start each race at Revival or Members’ Meeting – is filled with around 50 specially selected cars from those given a pass to take up position inside the circuit and display at each Breakfast Club. That doesn’t mean they are the “best” cars of the event, because who are we to decide which cars are “better” than others, rather that we’ve curated an interesting and hopefully pleasing selection of cars for you to peruse.
At Rule Britannia Sunday this selection includes cars that span about 100 years of motoring history. From the very earliest days of Bentley to the latest days of McLaren. Some of the cars in the grid are from manufacturers long since rendered extinct – Daimler, Austin – and many are just cars that we’ve long lusted over, like the Lotus Carlton. All of them are machines that, on their own, we’d pause for a look if we saw them on the street. So together this is at least an hour’s worth of gawping.
