It really does sound like almost the perfect recipe for a 911 – rear-drive, manual (obviously), connected to 550PS (405kW) of 992 Turbo muscle. That’s what 1,250 lucky buyers are going to get in the new Porsche 911 Sport Classic.
Seen running here for the first time at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, you can really appreciate the Sport Classic’s elegance. The latest project in Porsche’s Heritage Design series, it swerves the aggressive bodywork addenda of the Porsche Motorsport GT-badged offerings. Instead, it’s a Turbo nose, non-ventilated hips, a delightful duck tail spoiler and a retro striped livery. The spoiler is likely the best tell-tale in the silhouette that it’s a Sport Classic, though the gold badging found inside and out and Fuchs-style wheels.
Speaking of the inside, the classic theme continues par excellence, with houndstooth ‘pepita’ fabric detailing in the seat centres and door panels, which was first used on the 911 in 1965. There’s also lovely tanned leather elsewhere and Sport Classic detailing. We’re edging closer and closer to finding the perfect Porsche. Between the Sport Classic and the Cayman GT4 RS, it’s looking close. Great to see it in the paddocks at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard.
