The Cartier Style et Luxe lawn at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard had an eclectic mix of carbon, alloy and steel coachwork, of dream cars of all eras, rarities, one-offs and priceless jewels. From a gang of incredible McLaren F1s, to anniversary Ferraris, to Austin Stevens, it was quite the sight to see and a welcome slice of serenity away from the Hill. Of course, things get serious when the judging begins on Sunday afternoon.
The judging panel comprised 13 people from the worlds of art, design, sport and media. They included well-known ex-model and motoring enthusiast David Gandy, ex-Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy and world-renowned architect Sir Norman Foster. Here are all the 2022 Cartier Style et Luxe winners.
Of course, it’s not all exotica and unobtainium on Cartier. We like to celebrate important moments in all of motoring history, including one of the great cars of the people, the Austin 7, which turns 100 years old this year.
Winner: 1928 Austin 7 Maythorn & Son
Entered by: Ian Moore
On the flip side of the coin is a class that celebrates the most extravagant and decadent cars of the pre-war era, including the one-off Bucciali TAV8-32 V12 "Golden Arrow" and a Bugatti Type 57.
Winner: 1935 Fiat 508 CS Sport Mille Miglia
Entered by: Charlotte Newson
One class of Ferraris celebrated the most famous bloodline of the breed, the front-engined V12s. It included everything from a 365 GTB/4 to a 250 GT California. This magnificent display of grand tourers must have been difficult to pick from.
Winner: 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB/4
Entered by: Private Collection
Our third class on Cartier was dedicated to the cars that first put their power amidship, with stunning cars including the De Tomaso Vallelunga, Ferrari 206 Dino and the Lotus Europa.
Winner: 1964 Rene Bonnet Djet
Entered by: Jody Bowman
Our Lancia class this year celebrated the road-going cars twinned with the rally legends, including the Fulvia, Stratos, 037 and more. Lancia’s dedication to rallying was on display in full.
Winner: 1992 Lancia Delta Integrale EVO Final Edition
Entered by: Jason Baker
Of course one of the big celebrations at FOS 2022 was the 75th Anniversary of Ferrari, which was represented on Cartier by a display of anniversary models, from the 288 GTO all the way through the F40, F50, Enzo and LaFerrari. These incredible cars served simultaneously as bookends and new beginnings in the eras of Ferrari road cars.
Winner: 1989 Ferrari F40
Entered by: Henry Pearman
One of the big draws on the Cartier lawn was our display of incredible McLaren F1s, in celebration of the legendary model’s 30th anniversary. From ex-racers to long-legged road cars, it was an F1 fan’s dream scene.
Winner: 1993 McLaren F1 'High Downforce'
Entered by: Tom Smith
Of course at the end of it all, an overall winner is picked from the entire lawn. This year’s winner came from the Prancing Horse front-engined V12 class, in the form of the 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB/4. A stunning car and a worthy winner.
