The new BMW 2 Series Coupe is set to make its debut at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. Harking back to the original 2002 of the late ‘60s, the 2 Series follows the formula that helped make BMW’s name as a purveyor of transport for the sporting driver: compact footprint, rear-wheel-drive and the option of a sonorous straight-six.
As BMW’s M-Sport offerings and higher numeral coupes have piled on the power and tech, the entry-level cars have picked up the baton for simple, engaging thrills for keen drivers, and the next 2 Series is unlikely disappoint. It will make its debut at BMW’s ‘M Town’ stand at 09:00 on Thursday 8th July before tackling the famous Goodwood Hill in the ‘First Glance’ category beginning at 09:40.
Also demonstrating BMW’s driving dynamics to the full will be the debut of the astonishing BMW M5 CS, the Bavarian brand’s most powerful production car ever. Its 635PS (467kW) 4.4-litre V8 will push the super-saloon to 62mph in 3.0 seconds dead and on to a top speed of 189mph. It should make blistering and hopefully smoky, sideways work of the 1.16-mile climb past Goodwood House.
If the M5 CS is possibly the last hurrah of the petrol-powered big beasts, then BMW is also previewing its future as an electric brand with the iX being seen in public for the first time alongside the i4 Gran Coupe. Providing the bespoke touch will the limited edition BMW M4 Competition created in association with New York brand KITH and custom BMW R 18s from Kingston Customs, Bernhard Naumann and ZON.
