BMW M has announced the full range of its dominating presence at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, as this year’s honoured marque in celebration of its 50th anniversary. We’ll be seeing BMW M from the past, present and future, on display, on the Hill, on the Central Feature and everywhere in between, from the new M3 Touring, to the recently unveiled BMW M LMDh race car.
The former is of course the first of its kind, and for us wagon lovers here at Goodwood, we couldn’t be more excited. Tried and true M3 underpinnings, including the bombastic 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six are making their way into an engorged M3-ified wagon body. We can’t wait to see it in person. We can also reveal that alongside the production version will be a new MotoGP Safety Car M3 Touring running on the Hill. These will also be joining the hardcore lightweight new M4 CSL, which will be getting its European debut at FOS.
A hint to the future of BMW M’s racing exploits will be present and correct, in the form of the new M Hybrid V8 LMDh car which will have pride of place on the central feature alongside a 3.0 CSL, M1 Procar, WTCC 3 Series and the Le Mans-winning V12 LMR that it succeeds. On the Hill, M’s racing history will be on full song too, with another screaming V12 LMR joining the 1983 F1 World Championship-winning Brabham-BMW BT52, the Spa 2015 BMW Z4 GTR and the Sharknose 635CSI.
Off the Hill, a number of incredible models from BMW’s past, present and indeed its future will be on display, from the E30 M3 and E46 M3 CSL, to the latest greatest M5 CS and M4 GT3 racers, to the i4 M50 EV and indeed, the Concept XM, BMW M’s monster hybrid in-waiting. BMW’s all-electric assault is in full swing too, with the UK debut of the iX1 taking place at FOS, joining the stately new i7 electric limousine.
