As Henry Ford may or may not have once famously said, “Auto racing began five minutes after the second car was built”. Technically untrue and falsely attributed though that quote may be, it doesn’t feel far off when you consider how long Mercedes-Benz and its past iterations, have been at it. Because at the 2024 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, we’re celebrating no less than 130 years of Mercedes in motorsport.
We did so with an expansive parade of Mercedes led by the stunning ‘Blue Wonder’ transporter in this videp, carrying the incredible Streamliner of 1954. Following it, mid-engined monsters from the ’80s and ’90s in the 1989 Sauber-Mercedes C9 and Mercedes CLK LM. Behind those, examples of Mercedes’ masterful GT cars of the 2010s, the SLS GT3 and AMG GT3.
And indeed, these weren’t even the full extent of the cars that are here. There were also a few pre-war Grand Prix cars, the 1924 Targa Florio, as well as a 1990 C11 and many more. Beautiful cars from an expansive history in racing
