The announcements for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard keep on coming. This time, it’s the turn of Nitro Rallycross team XITE Energy Racing, which will be bringing its pair of electric FC1-X machines to the Hillclimb and the Forest Rally Stage.
At the wheel of these cars will be XITE Energy Racing’s two drivers: Formula 1 champion Jenson Button and rallycross stalwart Oli Bennett. Button signed on to drive for the team earlier this year, and he’s due to make his first appearance at Lydden Hill one week before the Festival of Speed.
The FC1-X was built to race in its own standalone Group E class for this year’s Nitro Rallycross season, of which XITE is one of four competing teams. It produces more than 1,000PS (735kW) and it’s claimed to capable of 0-60mph in under 1.5 seconds – we can’t wait to see what that looks like away from the start line.
We’ll have plenty more announcements like this in the build up to the Festival of Speed, with plenty of the world’s greatest cars and drivers already confirmed. Be sure to check back for all the latest FOS news over the coming weeks.
