The Ferrari 575 GTC Is An Unappreciated Masterpiece

The story of the Ferrari 575 GTC is a brief but intriguing one. A response to the manufacture of GT racers based on 550 road cars by Prodrive, the 575 GTC is a home-grown, Maranello-approved, Jean Todt-signed GT racer collaboration with NGT.

This gorgeous 575 GTC is the number 10 sibling of the number 9 which took first at Estoril in the 2003 FIA GT Championship. Number 10 while not being in the same motorsport limelight as its sibling, spent much of its time behind closed Maranello gates, serving as a test bed and prototype during a period when the XX Program for Corse Clienti was in its gestational stages. This car will have shared garage space with the most rarified of modern Ferrari sportscars. After some time a deal was struck where Ferrari sold several GT3 cars to AF Corse and this GTC was a part of that sale. From there it went for private sale and into the hands of its current owner.

The 575 GTC wasn’t the greatest of motorsport successes for Ferrari, it has to be said, but as a response to earlier privateer versions, which were themselves a response to demands for a competitive version of the 550, the 575 GTC has its niche place in Ferrari’s history. This one, while not a competitive superstar, may well have witnesed to or even been a part of the birth of ‘XX’. It’s a pleasure to see this rarified early naughties GT special in action at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
