FOS Timed Shootout – the results

02nd July 2017

The tension had been building nicely through the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard weekend, with the events fastest and most committed drivers gunning for the infamous Shootout number 1 finish.

The huge crowds lining the course were not left disappointed when the time finally arrived. With the cars heading up in reverse order from Saturday’s hotly contested qualification session, the stage was nicely set for some brave – and at times dramatic – attempts up the hill.

Anthony Reid headed up in his Arrinera Hussarya GT3 to set the first real benchmark time of 48.28, which Reid seemed confident could carry him all the way. It looked like he may have been right, with his time beating the test of the likes of the historically quick Nick Heidfeld in the M4Electro – who clocked a time of 48.59, never quite being able to challenge his course record of 41.6 seconds – and fan favorite Mike Skinner within his nutty Toyota Tundra, notching a time of 49.02.

Reid’s time was finally beaten by Mark Higgins within the Subaru WRX STI (48.25), taking some rally-like inside lines. Jeremy Smith, a strong favourite to take the top spot amongst many this weekend then topped the Subaru with a blistering 46.22 in the Penske-Chevrolet PC22, seen smoking heavily up the hill. The final glory, however, was left for Justin Law, who managed to squeeze out a weekend best time of 46.13 in the Jaguar XJR12D, with a run which saw him throw the Jag with inch-perfect precision around every corner.

Rounding out the list of 43 entrants, who all deserve enormous credit for their efforts throughout the weekend, was the unfortunate Ed Barrier, who had a less than ideal end to his day by putting the Chevrolet Nascar into the hay bales at the first corner.

All-in-all, it was another fabulous Goodwood Sunday Shootout which had the Goodwood Road and Racing team and the watching crowds fully engaged throughout.

You can see the final classification of Sunday’s shootout below.
