The 2018 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard will be defined and remembered by four days of perfect sunshine and perfect Porsches. Each day, we’ve given the iconic German Manufacturers a 70th birthday celebration to remember, and with a timetable chock-full of Porsche moments, every entrant, driver and car has delivered above and beyond.
We kicked things off with the unveiling of the tallest central feature in Goodwood history which saw six of the marque’s cutting-edge sportscars suspended in the air. A dramatic firework display opened the event, illuminating an early 365, a 959 Dakar, the beautiful 917, a 918, a 911R and a 919 Hybrid in the night’s sky. Porsche were the first manufacturer in the 25-year history of FOS to feature for the third time on the central feature, which speaks volumes for their importance and influence on the world of motorsport.
From then on, the celebrations kept rolling, with daily displays of Porsche engineering and racing history congregating around the central feature in front of Goodwood House and large expectant crowds. Cue epic orchestral reverberations and more crackling fireworks to get the hairs on end and emotions flowing through us all.
With the juices really flowing, the action didn’t stop with a huge array of Stuttgart cars making their way up the famous hill. We even had the Ferdinand Porsche designed 1939 T80 record car sat in the paddocks, only a few metres away from potentially the most beautiful race car of all time, the 1970 Le Mans winning 917.
No stone was left unturned in telling Porsche’s story this year, and we hope you’ve loved it all as much as we have. Happy birthday Porsche, and here’s to many more years.
