Gallery: Drift cars tearing up The Arena

06th July 2019
Adam Wilkins

Drift cars have become increasingly popular over the last few years at the Festival of Speed prestented by Mastercard, and in 2019 they had not just the Hill but a new, dedicated arena.

The Arena presented by Forza Horizon 4: LEGO Speed Champions attracted drift competitiors from all over the world, with their radically modified and highly specialised cars battling it out for top honours. The headline car was, perhaps, 'Mad' Mike Whiddett's Nimbul, the Lamborghini Huracan that made its debut this weekend. With its Liberty Walk bodywork, nitrous and rear-wheel-drive transmission, it created a real spectacle.

Of similarly Italian style (sort of) was the Toyota GT4586 of Ryan Tuerck. It may have looked like a Toyota GT86, because that's what it was, but it's fitted with the V8 engine from a Ferrari 458. It looked spectacular and sounded even better. Other cars that spent the weekend laying down rubber included the Ford Escort Coswort of Ken Block, the new Toyota Supra, Lexus RC-F as well as drifting favourites like the Nissan GTR and Nissan 200SX.

This gallery captures the atmosphere from this new addition to the Festival of Speed.
