When the rest of the 2019 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard takes a well-deserved pause for lunch and a touch of shade, it’s always worth the walk to the Performance Car Parking area to have a nose and what your fellow motorsport aficionados decided to take out of the garage. It’s something we did, every single day.
Specially selected for their performance credentials (with the exception of a stray Kia Cee’d…), the cars on show here are driven in by fans and GRRC members alike, and as car parks go, it’s one of the better ones.
Perched near the top of the Goodwood Hill, overlooking the entire site, it surely must be one of the most exciting and diverse selections of road-legal performance cars anywhere in the world during the Festival of Speed weekend.
Weaving between immaculate, straight out of the box Ferrari 488 Pistas, Aston Martin Vantages and brand new Porsche 911s, the modern supercar is well catered for, all of which look formidable and fun in the bright summer sunlight.
Nestled amongst the more obvious of choices, there are some real gems too. A fantastic white Lotus Europa and a chic De Tomaso Pantera GT5 also in white. Both demand a closer look and a retro photo opportunity.
Sling in an Audi RS2 Avant, a gaggle of understated but still lovely Jaguar F-Types, a BMW M2 with Carbon Wurks spoiler and splitter, and even one of those boxy brutes, a Ford Escort RS Turbo, it’s safe to say this year’s Performance Parking delivered big time.
Not forgetting McLarens, Lamborghinis, Morgans, E-Types and even a couple of delicious matte-finished Audi RS6s, there really was eye-candy for everyone. 2020 has a lot to live up to. Good work everybody.
