Gallery: The Chiron Pur Sport is a £3m Bugatti track-toy

A Chiron might not be your first choice of hypercar to put forward for a transformation into a track weapon but that’s exactly what’ Bugatti’s done, with great success. The Pur Sport is a bewinged, tinkered, hunkered-down Chiron designed to corner hard and accelerate even harder, than the standard car. It’s here to prove its performance on the Hill at the 2021 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard.

You’ll know it if you’ve seen it, too. Luminous in bright yellow and black two-tone, it’s made a few runs so far with no drama and is down for a number more.

How do you get a Chiron to pull harder without giving it 2,000PS (1,103kW)? Clever engineering, that’s how. With a new shorter gear set, the Pur Sport lunges to 62mph in 2.3 seconds, to 124mph in 5.9 seconds. Those are improvements over the standard car of 0.1 and 0.2 seconds respectively.

We like the Pur Sport’s more purposeful looks, too, especially in the Summer Sussex sun. Obviously that revised bodywork contributes to added downforce. Couple it all with negative front camber, revised traction control and lighter wheels for reduced unsprung mass and you have a rather more athletic Bugatti on your hands.

Words you hadn’t perhaps expected to combine before. Just 60 of these driver-focused Chirons are to be made, so it’s a sight not to be missed here at the 2021 Festival of Speed.
