The opening day of the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is always met with a heady mix of apprehension, anticipation and adrenaline. Perhaps this year, the overriding emotion is one of relief. Relief that we are all here, relief that the vaccinated and tested crowds are in, and relief that the Goodwood grounds are once again filled with the great and good from the world of motoring. As it should be.
It’s a credit to all involved that this year, Thursday is bigger and better than it’s ever been before. That’s some achievement in the circumstances. Traditionally a day for manufacturers to debut their latest creations up the Hill, while the weekend’s competitors start to see what’s what and take their first nervous explorations up the hillclimb, this year’s event is already looking like one for the ages. Don’t take our black and white words for it though, as this gallery will fill you in on all the Technicolor details…
