Video: Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera will make its dynamic debut at the Festival of Speed

14th July 2024

Over the past few years at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard we’ve witnessed the revival of the historic Hispano Suiza marque. First in 2022, when the Hispano Suiza Carmen made its dynamic debut on the famous Hill, then a year later we saw the exclusive Carmen Boulogne in action for the first time. For year three, Hispano Suiza is back once more with its new Carmen Sagrera.

As the Spanish brand celebrates its 120th anniversary in 2024, the new Carmen Sagrera looked pretty dramatic as it flew past the House on its first trips up the Hill on Thursday. It's 'stork wing' and metalic hue were particularly eyecatching features, as was, of course, the prowess on show which it used to confidently dispatch the Hillclimb.

The third version of the 1,000PS (735kW) electric hypercar takes on a more extreme form than we’ve seen in previous iterations. The elegant wing protrudes from the rear bodywork while the front end is more aggressive with a large splitter and intricate cooling ducts. The interior has also received a major overhaul with a darker, racier feel and a redesigned centre console.

Among the headlines are an upgraded 103kWh battery that weighs 612kg and operates at a maximum voltage of more than 750VDC. Not only is the battery larger but the power density has been increased, which means WLTP range has increased to 298 miles (480km) in the Carmen Sagrera.

Hispano Suiza’s four-motor powertrain first introduced on the Carmen Boulogne returns in the Sagrera. All four motors are positioned on the rear axle, two on the rear left wheel and two on the rear right, each producing 279PS (205kW) for a total output of 1,114PS (820kW) and 1,160Nm (856lb ft) of torque. Those figures amount to a 0-62mph sprint in 2.6 seconds, and you got a taste of that on it's runs up the Hill.

The suspension comprises adjustable shock absorbers and coil springs with lightweight wishbones made from a ‘military-grade material’ said to be eight times stronger than steel. The brakes meanwhile are carbon ceramic with lightweight calipers capable of operating at temperatures up to 1,000 degrees Celsius.
