The new MG Cyberster, an electric convertible sportscar, will make its world debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. We’ll see it in motion for the first time when it takes to the famous hillclimb.
MG has quickly expanded its range of electrified cars, bringing us the MG4 hatch, the MG5 estate and the ZS SUV, but the new Cyberster sportscar looks set to return this historic name to its roots.
Earlier reports suggest this new car will develop around 313PS (230kW) at its most basic level, with the potential to increase that to 546PS (402kW) for a high-performance variant. The lesser-powered version will be rear-wheel drive, with an estimated 330-mile range and a 0-62mph time of around five seconds. The hot version is set to be far quicker than that.
We’ll get the chance to see exactly what that looks like during the Festival of Speed. It’ll be on the Hill twice per day throughout the weekend, and also on display in the First Glance paddock, so there will be plenty of time to get up close and personal with this incredibly pretty soft top.
It’s not all about the Cyberster, either, as MG has also suggested there will be two other EVs making an appearance at the Festival. We have no further details on those just yet, other than the name of one –the EX4 – and that the other will be a ‘sporting’ model.
Speaking of this announcement, Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director for MG Motor UK said: “We’re excited to return to the Festival of Speed and with a global debut.
“The Cyberster marks MG’s long-awaited return to sportscar production and we’re ready to share what that exciting future looks like with this high-performance, technologically-advanced EV.
"Two further debuts are planned, both demonstrating MG’s desire to create electric cars that will engage and exhilarate.”
The Duke of Richmond said: “We are absolutely delighted that MG Motor UK will be returning to Goodwood this summer and honoured that it has chosen the Festival of Speed to host the global debut for the MG Cyberster.
“With such rich history between Goodwood and MG and ahead of its centenary in 2024, I’m thrilled MG will be so much part of the Festival this year.”
