The 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is barely a minute old and Porsche has already treated us to our first launch of the weekend. It’s the Vision 357 Speedster, an open-topped variant of the concept we first saw back in January this year.
This 357 concept is the embodiment of Porsche’s 75-year anniversary celebrations, paying homage to the brand’s first ever car, the 356. The new Vision 357 Speedster will be on display at the Festival of Speed throughout the event.
It’s based on the 718 GT4 e-Performance, which means it’s powered by the electric motors from the Porsche Mission R, a car that produces more than 1,000PS (735kW).
In terms of styling, the 357 Speedster is built on the chassis of the 718 GT4 Clubsport, but the sleek bodywork shrouding it creates a fresh shape, even more so in this Speedster version which bares more than a passing resemblance to the classic sportscars of the 1960s, with its single roll hoop and tonneau cover.
This is equal parts homage to the past and look to the future, thinking as much about the past 75 years of Porsche as it is the next. The head and tail lights are embedded within the bodywork, the instrument cluster is a transparent panel perched atop a carbon-fibre dashboard.
It is of course resplendent in Porsche’s ’75’ livery, and you can see it for yourself at the 2023 Festival of Speed.
