As Friday at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard came to a close, it was hard to believe that we’re already half-way through the annual four-day motoring celebration. There’s something about this event that makes the passing of time seem faster than usual.
It’s probably because there’s so much packed into the schedule that there are always several things vying for your attention at any one time. From airborne WRC machines on the Forest Rally Stage to high-speed runs up the Hill to lurid displays of sideways car control, the action is relentless.
And that’s before you consider that you’ll want to set some time aside to explore the various static displays, whether that’s the Cartier Style et Luxe concours, the paddocks or the large manufacturer displays. It’s little wonder that a day at the Festival of Speed is fuller than usual.
Then there are the moments when engine noise and tyre squeal give way to moments of reflection. NASCAR legend Richard Petty had a balcony moment at the House, his Plymouth Superbird looking on with its distinctive high wing. It was a particularly poignant moment as Petty has always been a Goodwood favourite, and this may be his final visit to Europe.
So join us for a whistlestop ten-photo tour of day two of the Festival of Speed. Here are some of the very best images captured by our hard-working team of event photographers. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the remainder of the event.
