Opening the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard in elegant fashion was the Duke of Richmond himself, behind the wheel of the all-new Lotus Emira production car. Lotus are of course celebrated this year as our featured marque, so it was only fitting we gave the Duke a seat in this long-awaited successor to the Elise, Exige and Evora.
Priced at less than £60,000 it’s a fantastic looking thing and one that will surely excite a whole new demographic of sports car enthusiasts. The first editions will be powered by the Toyota V6, which will be offered with a manual or automatic gearbox. The AMG four-pot version will come exclusively with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
With a 0-62mph time of less than 4.5 seconds and top speed of more than 180mph, this is a fun, accessible and beautifully styled piece of engineering. CO2 emissions, meanwhile, will officially be below 180g/km, proving Lotus, like most, have their eyes firmly set on a more sustainable future.
