Audi used the Goodwood Festival of Speed sponsored by Mastercard to showcase its most powerful production car, the RS e-tron GT. Part of First Glance presented by heycar, this was the inaugural running of the company's first performance EV on track, adorned with a golden-beige and purple wrap
The paint job could well be the only loud part about the e-tron; its launch off the line audio signposted by the noise of four-tyres trying their best to project 952PS (680kW) into the haloed Tarmac on the hill.
The e-tron GT is a canned example of exactly what fast EVs are all about. The noise and bravado of its petrol-powered brethren replaced with scalpel-like efficiency in corners and mind-blowing acceleration in-between them, the noise of the e-tron’s shapely form cutting through the air (wafting barks of the rally stage loud and clear in the distance) being the only noise to accompany the run.
In fairness, the Audi can do all its talking on paper. It gets from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds, tops out at 155mph, and can complete a 10-80 percent charge in less than 20 minutes. The future might not be petrol, but it is definitely quick.
