Dale Earnhardt, The Intimidator, The Man In Black, a man so iconic in his sport that you simply have to mention the number three and everyone knows who you are talking about.
Earnhardt won seven NASCAR Cup Series Championships, 76 Cup Series races, and achieved 428 top ten finishes in a career that lasted from 1975 until his tragic death in the Daytona 500 in 2001. He was one of the first drivers to be inducted into the NASCAR hall of fame when it opened in 2010.
Even now his influence is everywhere, from the reason that Daniel Ricciardo wears the number three in Formula 1, to the driving force behind all racers wearing a HANS device. Sadly Dale never made it to Goodwood before he passed, but his son Kerry, himself a veteran of over 100 NASCAR races, was more than happy to bring his father’s legendary black #3 Cheverolet Monte Carlo to the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard in 2015 to show off just how much damage you can dish out in a NASCAR.
Now we only have two questions. Have you ever seen a bigger burnout? And will we have the pleasure of Dale Jr.’s company at the Festival soon?
