If you spend just one day at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard you’ll hear engines of all configurations. Turbocharged, supercharged, naturally aspirated, inline-four, flat-six, V8, V10, V12, W16 – think of an engine configuration and there’s a strong chance there’s a vehicle, somewhere, that’ll match what comes to mind. Deciding the best engine sound at the Festival is therefore a tricky process, but the Essenza SCV12 has to be right up there with the greatest of all time.
This is what happens when Lamborghini decides to build a track car, not too dissimilar in spirit to the Ferrari FXXK. There are no rules to restrict air, downforce or power, or a minimum weight – the Lambo boffins are given a near-blank piece of paper and told to build something fantastic. The result is the Essenza SCV12.
Created by Lamborghini’s race team, Squadra Corse, the car has a 6.3-litre V12 with 850PS (610kW), a six-speed sequential gearbox and a body that looks as though it could be thrown into a Batman movie. No window or wine glass within a 10-mile radius was safe. It’s bonkers and we love it.
