Rain didn’t stop play on Friday at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, with legendary racing cars, the latest supercars and priceless prototypes all being wheeled out to dance in the rain. From Jenson Button in his Le Mans Garage 56 Camaro, to the astonishing hydrogen powered BMW H2R taking on the treacherous conditions, here are the full highlights from day two of the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
We open with a Mercedes 6.3-litre getting an absolute kicking off the line on the Hill, smoking the tyres half way up the straight. We dip into an intense run in Colin McRae’s Subaru Impreza with Karun Chandhok at the wheel and then Hyundai’s Elantra N TCR weapon giving it everything.
The Festival of Speed attracts a number of truly unique one-offs and prototypes, with our Friday highlights including the incredible new Ferrari KC23 and Audi’s crazy Hoonitron, built for the late great Ken Block.
Without doubt one of the weekend highlights, will be seeing Jenson Button back in his Garage 56 Camaro he drove at Le Mans. We spoke to the guys behind the creation of this incredible car, its conversion from NASCAR to Le Mans spec, so look forward to a story on that soon. The drifters and rally cars were obviously in their element, though the same probably can’t be said for those guiding the historic F1 cars up the Hill, including Emerson Fittipaldi in his Mclaren M23.
In terms of the latest greatest supercars, there was no shying away from the rain for the drivers of the new 1,015PS (747kW) Lamborghini Revuelto, Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro or Bugatti Bolide. They got absolutely battered in the wet on their way up the Hill, getting squirrelly along the way. We also celebrated Porsche’s 75th Anniversary with fireworks and a gathering of its incredible cars from across history. Friday was a blast at the 2023 Festival of Speed.
