The Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is back, and what a way to kick off the weekend. Thursday was jam-packed with new car debuts, everything from the Mercedes-AMG One to the BMW M3 Touring, the Czinger 21C to the Ford SuperVan. We saw drifters and rallycars, too. But a real honour was seeing three-time 500cc motorcycle Grand Prix champion Wayne Rainey ride one of his racing machines for the first time since his career-ending accident in 1993. The 1992-championship winning Yamaha YZR500 had been specially adapted so that Rainey, paralysed from the chest down, could take to two wheels once more.
A busy, sometimes emotional and truly fantastic day.
