Anthony Davidson is no slouch when he’s handed a racing car at Goodwood. In fact we’re pretty sure that if we’d had a stopwatch on the Member’s Meeting star (and he’d known about it) Davidson could well have written himself into the Goodwood history books.
Today we’re revisiting his tilt at the hillclimb in one of the most state-of-the-art machines in the world: his LMP1 racing Toyota TS040.
The Toyota is powered by a 3.7-litre V8, aided by not one, but two battery-powered hybrid systems recovering energy under braking and pumping an extra few-hundred horsepower back out through the front wheels. In fact, Toyota themselves are happy to admit that when all systems are firing on full the TS040 produces well over 1,000bhp.
This run is certainly in the low 40-seconds, although we can’t be entirely sure. A stat that is made all the more impressive by the fact that he starts his run in ‘milk-float’ electric only mode.
