Video: How to build the Festival of Speed’s central feature
Around about now we would be beginning the build-up for our fastest event of the year, the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. And while we shouldn’t miss being surrounded by a burgeoning building site, we kind of do.
Each year, over the five weeks approaching the event, the grounds of Goodwood House are slowly turned into the grown up’s play ground that greets visitors to the Festival. Hay bales line the Duke of Richmond’s driveway, and the rally stage emerges from the woods. Tents spring up all over, while the incredibly impressive sculpture slowly blossoms into a marvellous celebration of a person or manufacturer. In this time-lapse, filmed all the way back in 2011, you can see the sculpture of the beautiful Jaguar E-type take shape, a celebration of 50 years since the E-type was first unveiled.
In just two minutes, marvel at the incredible effort that goes into creating one of motoring’s flagship events, with the five week-build, four-day festival, 181,000 spectators and two-week breakdown encapsulated in less than the time it takes to make a cup of tea. Enjoy!
