Nick Swift is a name synonymous with Minis, and even more so with Minis being hurled around a track at almost unthinkable speed.
The master of Minis, who just happens to run a company that makes engines for the tiny machines, has regularly taken on much bigger cars in races at the Revival and Members’ Meeting, so it was a shock to find out that he had never been to the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard.
We, thankfully, rectified that at the Festival in 2021, where Swift used all his Mini nouse to take his Mini 1275GT – more regularly seen battling for the Gerry Marshall Trophy at Members’ Meeting – up the hill in the Timed Shootout.
While he didn’t win, it has to be said that a 1275GT never stood much of a chance against a McLaren 720GT3X, he was nontheless spectacular, popping the little car onto three, and sometimes even two wheels in search of extra speed.
The only question it left is, is this the most spectacular run you’ve ever seen at Goodwood?
