There are some great perks to being a superstar TV host. You get to hang out with funny people almost all of the time, to travel, to walk onto a stage to cheer and applause. And then, you can indulge in your hobbies a little more than most, perhaps own a second home with a garage and more than one car. Or, if you’re very, very successful, you drive a land-speed record car from the 1930s whilst someone tends to your own car collection in your personal warehouse. That is the life of Mr Jay Leno.
A comedian known for his love of cars (he has everything from a 1925 Doble E-20 steam car to a McLaren F1), Jay made the trip over the pond to drive at the 2011 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. He sampled all sorts of goodies, from a Jaguar XKR-S to this, the 1933 Napier-Railton land speed record car.
It’s a good thing Jay is used to driving cars of all ages, sizes and engine configurations, because most people wouldn’t have a clue where to start in something with a 24.0-litre Napier Lion W12 aeroplane engine under the bonnet…
