MG found some serious mojo at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. Not only did it bring forward its first sportscar since the TF, the funkily-named Cyberster, it also brought a surprise Group B tribute. Called the EX4, this monstrous car is MG imagining what would happen if the MG4 family EV got the 6R4 rally weapon treatment. This big-chinned, big-arched, big-winged monster, is the result.
Believe it or not, it’s mostly an aesthetic upgrade, given the EX4 is actually a demonstrator for the powertrain of the new MG4 XPower. No bad thing, given the new hot hatch that you can buy has a full 435PS (320kW), sent to all four wheels via an electric motor on each axle. This thing really could give a 6R4 a run for its money, which is kind of scary for what remains an unassuming family EV.
The EX4 on the other hand, is anything but unassuming. Nevermind the aero addenda, the lurid white grey and green livery makes for damn sure you don’t mistake it for anything else. We’re quite flattered, given the livery was special for Goodwood and a celebration of the 6R4’s 40th anniversary. The EX4’s run up the Hill was pretty spectacular too, gripping, going and kicking up dirt along the way.
We’d love nothing more than for MG to put the EX4 into production but that’s absolutely not happening. Well, maybe if we all ask nicely…
