Spoiler alert: at 2024’s event, the 21C hypercar did just that with a record-breaking time of 48.82 seconds. At the wheel was Chris Ward, who Goodwood-goers may be more used to seeing wrestling historic racing cars around the Motor Circuit at Revival. Watch as he uses every inch of the Hill to extract maximum performance from the road-going hypercar up the challenging 1.16-mile Hillclimb course. Actually, at times he uses a little more than the available space, one of the mirrors having been nibbled by the time he crosses the line. Occasional switches to on-board footage show the concentration in the driver’s eyes.
Looking for all the world like a fighter jet on wheels (if that’s not too nonsensical a description), the Czinger 21C produces a combined 1,267PS (932kW) from its 2.9-litre V8 engine and twin electric motors, the latter each powering one of the front wheels. The result is spectacular, the dark green metallic paint glinting in the Sussex sunshine.
