You may have seen a Pininfarina Battista before, but not like this. This is the extremely limited edition Battista Edizione Nino Farina, of which just five will be built. It’s what Automobili Pininfarina is calling a ‘design edition’, which takes the basis of the Battista and covers it in some distinct and elaborate styling. In this particular case, the Edizione Nino Farina is resplendent in a livery that celebrates the original Formula 1 world champion, Giuseppe ‘Nino’ Farina, who was the nephew of the company’s founder.

It made its global dynamic debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard with a sedate run up the Hill in the hands of former record holder Nick Heidfeld. It’s probably best that he took it easy on a slightly greasy Thursday morning, because the Battista pumps out 1,900PS (1,400kW) and 2,340Nm (1,726lb ft) of torque. The way it squirmed away from the line highlights just how much of a monster this car is.

Pininfarina’s headline for this car is that its’ faster than an F1 car, and that is certainly difficult to deny. Accleration from 0-62mph takes just 1.86 seconds, while that curve continues unabated all the way to 124mph in 4.75 seconds. The battery, mounted low in the centre of the car to optimise a low centre of gravity, is housed within a carbon-fibre shell for lightness, while torque vectoring and stability control work tirelessly to keep all of that power reigned in.

In Edizione Nino Farina spec, it’s decked out in a ‘Rosso Nino’ and ‘Bianco Sestriere’ colour scheme topped off with Glorioso Gold wheels. Quite the collection of elaborate hues. It’s certainly difficult to miss. On the inside, contrasting two-tone seats embroidered with bespoke designs on the back and head rests.

The fact five of these will be built is deliberate. Each one will pay tribute to a particular milestone in Nino Farina’s life. One for his birth, one for each of his three grand prix victories, and one for this F1 world championship triumph.
