Over 18 years since production of the Porsche Cayenne began, the marque is back with an all new Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. It’s here at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard to show us all what this souped-up version of its much-loved SUV can do.
Incredibly, in 2020, Porsche rolled-off the one-millionth Cayenne to yet another customer. It’s one of the greatest automotive success stories of recent years and one that is said to have saved Porsche’s bacon. Not only that, it proves the almost ceaseless tide of SUV buyers doesn’t show any signs of abating just yet. If ever.
Promising all new levels of performance, dynamic ability and driver engagement, the Cayenne Turbo GT is marketed as a ‘super-SUV’. Set for UK delivery just in time for the schools to go back in September, it is Porsche’s most powerful ICE-only SUV yet, thanks to its reworked version of Porsche’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine. Enhancements have created an extra 89PS (65kW) over the standard Turbo, developing 631PS (464kW) and 850Nm (627lb ft) of torque.
Adding this significant output to a whole host of developments throughout the chassis and suspension meant that Porsche were able to set a new lap record for production-based SUVs at the Nürburgring, with a time of 7 minutes 38.9 seconds. Impressive. As is its UK price tag that starts from £143,910.
