After all the incredible road and racing cars have done their demonstration runs at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, it’s time to get serious for the Timed Shootout, and 2023 was no exception.
We started with the Rimac Nevera, which set a record for the world’s fastest production EV up our Hill. If not for the BAC Mono, it would have been the fastest production car on our Hill too… Following that, the Iron Dames Porsche 911 RSR singing the song of its people. Believe it or not, it went five seconds slower, than the Rimac road car.
Of course, the star of the show was the McLaren Solus GT, with its 5.2-litre V10 engine producing more than 800PS. Derived from the virtual world of Gran Turismo – it’s a properly otherworldly thing, with otherworldly performance. Michael Lyons had an aggressive answer to it in the F1 championship-winning McLaren M26 from 1976 but could he top the modern monster? What other cars put their fastest foot forward? Keep watching the full Timed Shootout from the 2023 Festival of Speed, to find out.
