BTCC aficionados and fans of the turbo whistle pay attention, because this is Tim Harvey’s ex-BTCC Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 on the absolute limit.
One of the cars that took part in the 2016 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard timed shootout, the Labatt’s liveried RS500 was thrown up the hill in mighty 58.39 seconds by Paul Smith, crossing the line at 101.3mph. Not too bad for a 27-year-old touring car?
Driven by Harvey in the BTCC in 1989, there are plenty of reasons to like this car. It won twice over the course of the year, for example, once at Thruxton and one at Donington Park. But watching this clip back we can’t help but love that proper old-school turbo whistle. Why can’t more cars hold a tune like this?
