The name Valentino Rossi is so synonymous with two wheels that you’d be forgiven for thinking we’ve made a mistake here. But this is, in fact, the nine-time world champion behind the wheel of a Mazda 787B at the 2015 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. And as it turns out, he’s quite handy on four wheels too, with a handful of Ferrari test drives and world championship rallies under his belt.
Watch the Italian motorcycle maestro take on the Goodwood hillclimb, winding his way up the 1.16-mile ribbon of tarmac with the same finesse that he boasts on track with two wheels. The 1991 Le Mans-winning Mazda 787B and its screaming 2.6-litre four-rotor is one of the loudest engines to have graced Goodwood, and Rossi cajoles a high-pitched scream from his self-professed favourite race car.
