We’ve seen a lot of very cool things on the Hill so far at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, among them is the AGTZ Twin Tail, a very special coachbuild from Zagato which the Italian company has developed in collaboration with La Squadra.
This striking new carbon-fibre bodywork has been laid onto an Alpine A110 to evoke memories of the long-tail prototypes that raced at Le Mans in the 1960s. The elongated rear end is removable, but underneath is an equally sculpted work of art, albeit less dramatic.
Aside from the embellished bodywork, everything else from the Alpine remains in place. So the mid-mounted 1.8-litre engine will be recognisable, as will its potent 252PS (185kW) power output. Quite what this new look will do the Alpine’s handling, we’re not certain, but if it’s managed to retain any of the A110’s dynamism then it’s bound to be pretty good on the road.
Only 19 of these are expected to be built, with a princely price tag of around £650,000. It’s not cheap then, but if you fancy being able to drive around in a car that reflects the long-tailed legends of Le Mans then we guess it’s worth the outlay.
