Caterham’s number has come up trumps at this year’s Goodwood Revival. On Friday September 7th they announced a new version of the Seven – and promptly sold them all in seven hours.

Last year the limited-edition Seven Sprint tourer launched at Revival sold out in seven days. But this year the new Super Sprint “gentleman’s racer” sold out in mere hours after the covers came off.

“The Sprint was the fastest-selling Caterham ever but this year we have well and truly beaten that,” Marcus the marketing manager tells us. “It’s been a fantastic Revival for us.”

Like the Sprint before it, the Super Sprint is a limited-edition run of special retro-styled models to mark Caterham’s 60th anniversary. There are just 60 cars in each series.

The £30,000 Seven Super Sprint looks a treat in Zandvoort green in Caterham’s marquee in Revival’s Over the Road area. All the cars are available in special motor circuit-themed colours, others being Imola red, Aintree dark green, Watkins Glen orange and blue, Hockenheim silver and Dijon navy blue with a white noseband. (Wot! No Goodwood?)

Retro cues include chrome highlights, period-correct extended cycle guards, aeroscreens, racing roundels, and a Motolita wood-rimmed steering wheel. The Sprint’s overhead cam three-cylinder engine gets a 15bhp boost to 95bhp and there’s a limited slip diff and adjustable suspension.

As Caterham says, “There’s lashings of performance, precision and panache for the discerning chap or chapess who wants to drive to the circuit, race, then drive home again.”

One option for the serious racer is a single-seat cabin with tonneau.
