Gallery: Close quarters battle in St Mary's Trophy Part 1

18th September 2021
Adam Wilkins

The St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul race was a close battle the moment the cars left the grid, and it stayed that way for the duration. This was Part 1 of a two-parter, with the overall result an aggregate of both results. Each car is driven by a pro and and owner, making for close competition throughout.

Up front was a battle between the seemingly unwieldy Ford Thunderbird of Romain Dumas and the more nimble Austin A90 campaigned by Andre Lotterer. Elsewhere there was a close fight between Anthony Reid in his Jaguar Mk1 and Emanuele Pirro aboard his Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Things got a little too close when three cars ricocheted off each other, leading to Stuart Graham’s retirement with bodywork rubbing on a tyre. Dumas crossed the line first, with the Austin A40s of Andrew Jordan and Marcel Fassler completing the podium.
