The grounds of Goodwood are reverberating with the sound of speed as hundreds of history’s most famous vehicles gather for the raucous Revival. And while the majority of machines are on the wrong side of three wheels, there are a handful of motorcycles spoiling for a battle of epic proportions in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy.
The motorcycle paddock is abuzz with activity as mechanics fiddle and fettle the 30-strong grid. There’s no fuel injection or fancy electronics here, with the machines dating from a 1959 Norton Manx 30M to a 1967 MV Agusta 500/3.
In amongst a sea of Norton Manxes and Matchless G50s are a handful of more unique models – a 1966 Aermacchi Ala d'Oro 408, a 1966 Hansen Honda and a 1962 BSA Gold Star DBD34, for example.
But getting more attention are the famous names who will piloting them in this weekend’s competition. TT legends John McGuinness, James Haydon and Jenny Tinmouth will be joined by current BSB riders Josh Brookes, Tommy Bridewell and Peter Hickman for the two-part race which will see a Le Mans style start, and a pro-am rider swap half way through.
The action will kick off today, with the official practice at 10:30, followed by the 25-minute part one tomorrow at 11:00. The ultimate champion will be decided early doors on Sunday, with the race unfolding from 09:45.
