The selection of beauties on offer in the Bonhams sale at the 2022 Goodwood Revival is pretty spectacular and at the top of the tree, highly event-relevant this year. For leading the sale is a famous Aston Martin DB3, winner of the inaugural Goodwood Nine Hours in 1952, just over 70 years ago. The victory was a particularly special one for Aston, being the first at a top-drawer enduro, setting properly in motion its journey to that 1959 Le Mans win seven years later.
When it crosses the block tomorrow it’s expected to make between £2.8 and £3.3million, which will in all likelihood lead the sale as the top seller, but the lineup is chock full of other spectacular – if not as expensive – machinery.
Pre-war racers, Revival-era sportscars, single-seaters spanning seven decades and many more make up the range of competition machinery, while a range of classics and supercars are on offer if you want something to drive home in. If we had to pick, we’d burble home on Monday in that stunning green McLaren-Mercedes SLR 722S Roadster and we’d pick up the stunning Porsche 904 GTS for our ticket to a Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy grid.
