As the great and the good of motorsport assembled to pay homage to one of the most remarkable racers and gentlemen this country has ever produced, the Duke of Richmond spoke with moving affection as he opened the Graham Hill Tribute Track Parade on Saturday afternoon.
Described as a man who exemplified the very best of British character, Graham Hill was a fun-loving, extrovert engaging man of the people, with a fearsome competitiveness and natural gift for pure speed.
The moving parade was assembled to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Graham’s first F1 world title in 1962, and his first ever outright F1 category victory at this very circuit in the Glover Trophy driving the BRM P578 ‘old faithful’. Graham’s son, and fellow F1 world champion Damon Hill, paid tribute to his late father by driving the same car for the commemoration.
A multi-time race winner at Goodwood, a two time F1 Champion, five time Monaco Grand Prix winner and still the only man to win motorsport’s Triple Crown, Graham Hill remains a legend and much-missed friend of Goodwood.
