F1 champion Jenson Button will race at the 2022 Goodwood Revival, returning to historic motorsport after making his debut in 2021.
The 2009 F1 title winner retired from the top level of motorsport in 2017, but has since raced in sportscars at Le Mans and in Super GT and will race in Rallycross for the first time in 2022, following in his father’s footsteps.
In 2021 Button made his first steps into historic racing, partnering with GT racer Alex Buncombe to race a Jaguar E-type in the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy and an AC Cobra in the RAC TT Celebration.
Button was quick to find his feet despite some major differences between modern racers and historic cars and a slightly difficult qualifying session. He sliced through the field in the bright blue AC Cobra, showing that he has lost none of the skills that saw him win 15 grands prix in 308 races.
As well as taking to the track, Jenson will be helping to inspire the next generation of Revival racers by judging the Race Flag Competition, which forms part of our celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Settrington Cup. The winner of this design competition will have an opportunity to race The Duke of Richmond’s own J40 pedal car in the Settrington Cup and take part in an exclusive Settrington Cup Test Day in July.
The competition is open to all children aged four to eleven. To enter simply download this template, create a design and submit via post or email. The competition will close on 5th June and the winning design selected by Jenson Button will be added to a real J40.
Speaking of his return Jenson Button said: “I thoroughly enjoyed making my historic racing debut at the Revival last year and having the opportunity to get behind the wheel of some exceptional cars - and I’m looking forward to doing it all over again in September! I’m also excited to be judging the Race Flag Competition and seeing the creative genius of the next generation.”
The Duke of Richmond said: “Jenson Button is a great friend of Goodwood and we were delighted that he made his long-awaited historic racing debut at the Revival last year. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action again this September and would like to thank him for agreeing to judge the Settrington Cup Race Flag Competition - I know my J40 will be in safe hands.”
