A race dedicated to the world’s favourite entry-level classic car is coming to the Goodwood Revival in 2022. For this year, the Lavant Cup will be transformed into a one-maker for MGBs. Of course, this assemblage will be in celebration of the 60th birthday of MG’s ubiquitous sportscar.
The race will be for between 25 and 30 cars, with a number of ex-Le Mans examples, cars with Goodwood history and, indeed, a car once raced by the late great Sir Stirling Moss. Practice will be taking place on Friday, while the race itself will go ahead on Sunday. We really can’t wait to see them clash, given the precedent that was set between MGs at past Goodwood events.
Last year, one of the very best battles from the entire 78th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport was between two of these diminutive little sportscars. It was our very own Ed Foster versus friend of Goodwood Josh Barnett in a tussle for position around the circuit and gives us a good preview of what to expect from the Lavant Cup at Revival 2022.
The Lavant Cup at Revival 2022 will therefore definitely be one to watch. Our one-makers at the Motor Circuit have delivered some of the very best racing action in recent years, from the Austin A30 and A35s in the 2016 St Mary’s Trophy, to the all-Mini John Whitmore Trophy at the 2021 Revival.
