Pristine Ferrari Daytona leads Bonhams Revival sale

Yet the shark-nosed Ferrari Daytona is perhaps the most iconic of all Ferrari’s front-engined V12s. And now one of that 150 is a star of the 2017 Goodwood Revival.

A 1973 Daytona – more accurately, the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 – became Revival’s most expensive car of the weekend when it sold at Bonhams Revival auction on Saturday (September 9^th) for £606,000 including the premium.

Daytonas were never cheap – it was Ferrari’s most expensive model ever when new, as well as the world’s fastest car with its 175mph top speed.

What makes a £600k Daytona today? Condition. This Daytona is totally superb, Bonhams’ experts labelling it one of the very best available and complete with what they say is one of the most comprehensive history files they have seen. 

Rosso Chiaro with beige leather interior, the car was delivered new to the UK in ’73 and has covered just 55,117 obviously cherished miles. Its history file comprises documents from the car’s first service invoice of 1973 and its first MoT certificate in 1976 right up to the present day. It comes with the original book pack and its complete tool kit.

A beautiful Bentley Continental and an Aston Martin DB5 both ran the Ferrari close in the race for top lot. Here’s the full top 12 best prices from the Bonhams Revival auction (prices include premium):

£357,660. The ex-Lieutenant-Commander Christopher Tomkinson/Darell Berthon 1927 Bentley 3-Litre Speed sports two-seater. 

£328,333. 1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante X Pack convertible.

£315,100. 1962 Facel Vega II coupe.
