Race Report: Settrington Cup Part 1 – Revival 2019

16th September 2019
Nick Garton

It was the online sensation of the 2018 Revival, becoming the most-viewed highlights reel in Goodwood history – and the 2019 Settrington Cup certainly brought out a spectacular entry of 4-to-10-year-old racers.

A total of 74 Austin J40 pedal cars and their immaculately-presented drivers took their places on the start/finish straight. The boys and girls completed a Le Mans-type start to sprint to their cars and jump in, from which Samuel Lewis took up the early running.

As they approached the temporary chicane, however, young Samuel was already being overhauled by the car of Joe Stanley who scythed in front through the narrowest part of the course and began to pull away. Young Joe powered all the way to the finish where the flag was waved by Sir Jackie Stewart to complete an unforgettable few minutes for these young stars.
