Porsches, Spitfires and more at the Bonhams|Cars Revival sale
The numerous lots in this year’s Bonhams|Cars Revival sale are all sat ready and waiting for their respective new owners to arrive. The Auction takes place on Saturday 9th September in the midst of the 2023 Goodwood Revival, and we’ve been having a nose around to see just what’s on offer for the discerning collector this weekend.
Right at the top of our list is the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR, a car that we’ve spent some time with in the build-up to the Revival, and it certainly stands proud in the centre of the tent, far cleaner than it was last time we saw it. With an estimate of £3,750,000-£5,750,000, it’s expected to be the most valuable car sold by Bonhams|Cars at the Revival, and anyone with their eye on it can be safe in the knowledge that this is a unique racing Porsche 911 that achieved massive success in a short space of time.
Not in the tent, but most definitely up for sale, is a Vickers Supermarine Spitfire. It’s a Mark IX model, first delivered to Hornchurch in August 1943. This iconic plane comes with a complete history of its accomplishments, including a single Focke-Wulf 190 ‘victory’ that it claimed a month after it joined the ranks. It’s estimated to fetch anywhere from £3,500,000-£4,500,000 when it goes under the hammer on Saturday.
One of our other favourite lots in this year’s Revival sale is the collection of no less than seven Series 1 Land Rovers, not only showcasing the versatility of that classic chassis but also its popularity, as it was put to use as a military vehicle but also used by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during a tour of Australia in 1954, in the case of lot number 258.
Elsewhere, there’s a rather beautiful Aston Martin DB5, finished in beige on the inside and out, expected to sell for in the region of £500,000. There’s a historic MG Q-Type Monoposto, a racing car from 1934 that, believe it or not, could be bought to race at the Goodwood Revival. Eight were made, and this one specifically is known to have raced on tracks like Brooklands and Crystal Palace.
Of the more unusual lots, there’s a Tatra T87, an odd-looking thing built in what was Czechoslovakia in 1946, and an alarmingly pink Series 3 Jaguar E-type Roadster, complete matching pink interior valued at just £45,000-£55,000, which is enticingly affordable for a V12 E-type.
