Picking five of the best videos we have of the RAC TT Celebration was never going to be an easy task, but with the Revival just over two weeks away we thought it was a good time to give it a go.
The Revival’s RAC TT Celebration celebrates closed-cockpit GT cars that would have raced at RAC TT events in 1963 and ’64. The one-hour, two-driver race is a fan favourite, with some of the world’s most exquisite machines paired up with some of the world’s best drivers.
Here are five nail-biting videos, from a very tight start to the 1999 TT to a near miss between Richard Meins’ in an E-type and Joe Bamford in a Ferrari 250 GTO in 2016.
If you haven’t already bought your tickets for this year’s event, there are still a limited number available for Friday and Sunday, with ‘Super Sunday’ playing host to the RAC TT Celebration once again.
Let’s go almost all the way back to the beginning, with a close-fought start to the 1999 RAC TT Celebration. Even in just its second year, the Revival proved it hosted some of the world’s tightest and fiercest racing.
A race that included a Ferrari 250 LM taking to the grass for the race start and undoubtedly some of the closest racing Revival visitors had ever seen.
Watch as Olivier Hart in a 1963 AC Cobra duels with three-time BTCC champion Gordon Shedden in a 1964 Jaguar E-Type. You’d be forgiven for thinking their lives depended on the outcome…
Ride on board for the aforementioned heart-in-mouth near miss, with Joe Bamford’s 250 GTO nearly being side-swiped by Richard Meins’ Jaguar E-type as it takes avoiding action.
Seeing one Cobra being driven flat out is special enough, but seeing six Cobras side by side, all jostling for position, is almost unbelievable. But in 2017 that’s exactly what we saw.
