The heavy sky picked its moment to discharge mid-way through the first race of the day, the Earl of March Trophy. It was severe enough to bring a premature end to the competition for tiny 500cc powered single-seaters.
By the time for the Richmond and Gordon Trophies, things had dried out and the track action was back on, and would remain uninterrupted by the weather for the rest of the day. We had rain, but thankfully not enough to halt proceedings. The Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy Part 2 provided more shoulder to shoulder action as modern-day two-wheeled heroes stepped back in time to pedal archaic machinery.
The blue riband event of the weekend, the RAC TT Celebration, provided a terrific spectacle. The battle to win the one-hour, two-driver race went right down to the wire. It was BTCC drivers Tom Ingram (TVR Griffith) and Jake Hill (AC Cobra) who were battling to the flag. The St. Mary’s Trophy for 1960s saloon cars was a battle between small European cars and large Americans that provided plenty of close racing.
The final race of the weekend rounded out the competition with another close race. It was Jake Hill once again at the sharp end, this time scrapping with Richard Woolmer for the win of the Freddie March Memorial Trophy, both of them aboard HWMs.
Of course, Revival isn’t only about the racing. We also had a moving D-Day commemoration marking the 80th anniversary of the landings. There is also the Revive and Thrive element to the event that promotes sustainability. Our interview with Dita von Teese appears in this package of full highlights from the Sunday of the 2024 Goodwood Revival.
