Is there a more rigarous test of a racing driver's restraint, than having him chase competitors in the sopping wet, knowing he can't put his toe down fully?

That's exactly what the competitiors in Saturday's Whitsun Trophy were subjected to when the skys opened over the Goodwood Motor Circuit. Equipped with monstrous V8s and girthy tires like skipping stones, the race was a constant battle for each and every driver to keep their machines on the black stuff, while attempting to make some meaningful progress.

In the video above, watch as Chris Ward pins his GT40 to the Lola T70 of Tony Sinclair – determined to hold position and potentially make a pass. The whole exchange is an exercise in exemplary millimetric throttle control.
