Old Porsches are by and large inherently special. At least they were, until you see one that’s got some unrepeatable history. This 356, seen racing at the 2021 Goodwood Revival, is the first car Jim Clark ever won a race in.
He drove to that win in the Border Motor Racing Club meeting in October of 1957 and, indeed, it was his first of many victories in this car. Of course, we know of the incredible career Clark went on to have as a near peerless driver, but what of this Porsche? It was almost lost to the ages before it was found languishing in a barn. Since its restoration at the hands of owner Tom Pead, it’s had a fine career of historic racing, for over 20 years, with its first appearance here at the Goodwood Revival in 2000. What an incredible piece of history, to see being used as well as preserved.
